Healthy Meal Prep Tips

We here at Red Sun Farms understand you’re a busy family! So are we; between school, work, lessons, recitals and more, anyways to save time are a real life saver. Try your hand at some of the healthy meal prep tips included here to squeeze a few extra minutes out of even your busiest days of the week!

Make Sunday prep day — Set aside time on Sunday afternoon/evening to do as much as you can ahead of time to save time on busier days during the week. You’ll thank yourself later in the week for putting in the work on a day that’s less hectic!

Get the kids involved — Give kids tasks they can help with: washing or chopping vegetables, opening cans, grating cheese, packing lunches or loading up the dishwasher. Little hands can be a big help and a big time saver if you put them to task!

Pack those lunches ahead - Make lunch items that will keep for the week, like Pulled Pork Sliders or Stuffed Pepper Soup! The fewer days you have to worry about food, the better off you’ll be as you zip back and forth from work to school to soccer practice, ballet and more.

Color code — Tupperware is readily available in a variety of colors. Choose a different color for every day of the week, then grab lunch and go! A real time saver. Try it with made ahead Chicken Patties and Veggie Spears or Grilled Chicken & Roasted Red Pepper Slaw. Do the same with cut up peppers and snacking tomatoes, or other veggies that are a favorite with the kiddos; give them a color, and that’s there after school snack or a packable lunch snack they can grab themselves!

The freezer is your friend — Mix together a few ingredients, chop some vegetables and meat, add seasonings, throw it all in a bag and freeze it. In the morning, take the bag out of the freezer and throw it in the slow cooker. Dinner will be ready when you walk through the door, like these Turkey and Quinoa Stuffed Peppers! No need to thaw them first — just put them on the lowest setting in your crockpot and you’re done! There you have it.
